BINGO Links

Below you will find all the links & information you need to complete the Leading from a Distance BINGO Card. When you get “BINGO” please mark which squares you have completed and share your card with #LeadershipBINGO on social media. Good luck!

Row One:

  • Initiated a conversation in a team chat. Great leaders are willing to work on their communication skills.

  • Journaled about this: “What am I doing well as a leader?” Great leaders are willing to pause and think about how they are doing as leaders.

  • Watched Drew Dudley’s TED Talk on Everyday Leadership. In this video, you’ll be invited to think about leaders from a different perspective.

  • Read Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek. Leaders are readers and this is my all-time favorite leadership book!

  • Watched Rudy Francisco’s Complainers Video. Leaders understand that everything we say and do is contagious. This video will challenge you to think about what you choose to say to others.

Row Two:

  • Journaled about this: “How would I lead if I had more courage?” Great leaders are willing to reflect on the areas where they need to be more courageous.

  • Watched Alison Levine’s TED Talk on leadership. This video will challenge you to think about how you respond to adversity in your life.

  • Called/texted a coach to check-in. Team leaders understand that they are like a bridge between players and coaches and they are willing to reach out and check-in with their coaches.

  • Reached out to a teammate who I don’t know very well. Great leaders understand that they need to connect with everyone they impact and that includes teammates they don’t know very well.

  • Made a list of the leadership skills I want to improve on. Again, great leaders have a growth mindset.

Row Three:

  • Watched Tamika Catchings Musial Award video. This video will give you a glimpse of an elite level athlete/leader who chose to use her influence for good.

  • Wrote a thank you note to someone who supports me. Great leaders are willing to express their gratitude to others.

  • Watched Take Care of Yourself video. As a leader, you can’t take care of others if you aren’t taking care of yourself. This video will encourage you to make self-care a a priority.

  • Made an online donation to a local charity. Great leaders are always looking for ways to pay it forward. Many local charities are working overtime to serve those in your community who are suffering during this time. A financial donation of any amount will go a long way.

  • Thanked someone who has been a leader in my life. Great leaders know that it is important to help develop future leaders. Think about a leader who helped to develop you (or who inspired you) and reach out to thank them.

Row Four:

  • Read Teammates Matter by Alan Williams. This book will help you to understand the value that each teammate brings to the team.

  • Watched Life Motivations Video by Prince Ea. This video will push you to think about your goals and motivations in life.

  • Shared a meaningful video with a teammate. As leaders, it is important that we are helping to develop others. By sharing resources with a teammate you are being intentional about their development.

  • Did the Dirty Work around the house. Great leaders are willing to Do the Dirty Work - the stuff that no one else wants to do. In our sport context that might mean cleaning the locker room or helping to carry gear. At home that might mean doing the laundry or unloading the dishwasher. The best leaders are always looking for ways to Do the Dirty Work.

  • Watched Simon Sinek’s TED Talk on feeling safe. I fully trust Simon Sinek on the topic of leadership. In this video, he will help you to understand the value of making your people feel safe.

Row Five:

  • Watched a Pep Talk video from Kid President. Great leaders understand that our words matter. This video will remind you of all the positive ways we can use our words.

  • Reached out to someone and asked, “How can I help?” This is one of the most powerful questions that a leader can ask. Get in the habit of realizing that you can make a difference and start asking this simple yet powerful question.

  • Read Love Changes People Blog. Have you ever had a difficult teammate? Of course you have! This blog will encourage you to think about the value of caring for difficult people.

  • Asked my coach how I could develop as a leader. Great leaders are always looking for feedback so they can continue to grow. Take this time to ask for some honest feedback from your coach.

  • Sent a card to an assisted living facility. Many elderly people are feeling very alone right now. It is not safe for their families to visit so cards in the mail are a source of joy for them. As leaders, we should be thinking about how we can serve others during this time. You can use the template below to send cards to any local assisted living home or you can send them to a facility where my friend Kaitlin works:

    Dear Friend,

My name is Kaitlin, I am a junior at Pius XI High School.  I like to play soccer and basketball, play the violin, and watch movies.  I am home from school right now because of the virus and I thought I would write you a note.  I hope you are doing well and have something to occupy your time.  I am already running out of things to do.  My schoolwork has all been transferred to the computer so I am able to finish my classes for the semester.  I would love to hear about you if you want to write back to me.  What are you doing with your days?  What is your favorite hobby?

    My address is:

    Nice to meet you!
